Michael Engelhardt is the band's lead vocalist. A life long resident of the Chandler area in Arizona, he hails from a lengthy musical history revolving around singing, performing, and songwriting. From elementary school, to a scholarship for music performance at Northern Arizona University, and a brief stop at Carnegie hall along the way, Michael has lived his dream, but is always ready to step up to the next level which he ambitiously pursues.
Though garage days are long behind him, and playing to packed houses and large venues with Radiobox have been common place, things really got rolling for him as the Singer of a cover band called “Scoobacca”. Scoobacca was little known, but notorious for playing parties for four and sometimes five hours at a time. They were successful for a while, but as one of the hardest working bands on the east side of Phoenix, it was trial by fire. And from the ashes arose a musician and artist who needed to express and explore new original music. Then as well as today, Michael rarely turns down an opportunity to collaborate with other musicians to explore new sounds, and the creative experience. Though at the time, most of these collaborations went no further than live jams and practice, one seed was planted. The project was dubbed “BlackBoard” and was greatly successful but short lived. Michael and one of Blackboard’s other founding members then collaborated to bring in new creative and reliable talent. Thus laying the foundation for what would later become “Radiobox”.
